I purchased the Rat Mat PRO in olive, and I have to say, I couldn't be happier with this mat. Seriously, it's awesome. I was worried about the purchase because compared to the hundreds of reviews some of the other yoga mats had, the 25 reviews for this product seemed pretty measly, especially considering that those 25 reviews encompassed 2 completely different products (the Classic and the Pro).
I'd like to start off by saying that I think it would be smart if they had separate pages for the Rat Mat Pro and the Rat Mat Classic because judging by the customer reviews, these seem to be two entirely different mats. From the description (because again, I have the Pro, not the Classic), the Rat Mat Classic is just a standard PVC mat. To get an idea, most of the Gaiam mats that you'd find in your local Target are PVC. So are the Danskin Now mats you'd find at WalMart.
I bring this up because some reviewers complained about the mat being slippery. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: I am pretty positive that anyone complaining about slipperiness purchased the Classic version and not the Pro. The Pro is made of TPE and not PVC, and the Pro is super sticky. It's amazing. So if you're contemplating purchasing the Pro version but are worried about reviews that complained of it being slippery, double check those reviews to see if the person bought the Classic version or the Pro. Again, they appear to be two entirely different products, so don't judge the Pro version based on reviews for the Classic.
*THE REVIEW*
The Rat Mat Pro is superb. It's incredibly sticky, and when I compared it side by side with my old standard PVC mat, I was absolutely amazed at the difference. After experiencing TPE, I'll never go back to PVC. I did my evening practice outside tonight in 85 degree weather and moderate humidity, and I experienced no slippage at all. I'm in love. It's great being able to focus on the pose without any unwanted movement.
The Rat Mat Pro delivers on thickness, too, as it's plenty thick without being overly soft or spongey. It's stiff enough that it feels durable, does not cause you to move around too much during balance poses, and does not hold hand or foot imprints after long poses, but it's soft enough that I feel cushioned and comfortable throughout my entire practice.
As far as appearance goes, the olive color that I chose is very pretty. It's not quite as lime-y as the picture makes it look; rather it's quite light and very soothing. The YogaRat logo is present on the colored side of the mat, but it is very small (2-3 inches tall) and is hidden away on the corner of the mat. I did not find that it detracted from my focus at all. (And honestly, I think the logo is kind of cute...)
For only 15 dollars or so more than what you'd pay for the average PVC mat, I would highly suggest you give the Rat Mat Pro a try. It's definitely worth the price, as it's truly a great mat.
One last note: I've only had the Rat Mat Pro for a few days, so I can't speak to its durability very confidently. I have, however, used the mat on carpet, hardwood floors, tile, grass, and even a concrete patio without any signs of damage (or even light wear and tear), so I'm pretty confident it won't let me down.
